BERITA BOLA,- Football supporters in Indonesia are growing rapidly with more organized groups appearing during the last six years. The phenomenon possesses positive, yet also negative, impacts to national football industry.

Some domestic groups even managed to adopt foreign trend, naming themselves as ultras or hooligans. Ultras refer to a group of supporter that often causes riot, although they mostly sing motivational song for the club. Hooligans refer to a group of supporters that tend to misbehave and overreact on supporting the team, supports that mostly lead to violent fistfights and intimidation acts.

The misleading behavior begins from rivalry that may be by in or off pitch conflicts. Hooligans, a stereotype idea born in Britain, have been a global trend. However, its existence in Indonesia slightly differs with the original ones, though strikingly similar in terms of brutality.

The original British Hooligans are not familiar with colorful smoke screen or firecrackers, a view often seen in Indonesia stadiums. Apparently, Indonesian Hooligans are much more than a trend, a thing considered as an inappropriate acculturation.
