BERITA BOLA,- Manchester - Manchester United keeps their bid for Everton left-back Leighton Baines alive. After Everton refused the first offer, the reigning English champion submitted the second offer.

According to Daily Mail, the Red Devils submitted a new offer amounting £15 million (US$22.89 million) plus bonuses. The amount is reported to be £3 million higher than the first bid.

Still, chances are Everton will again refuse. The Toffees estimated Baines' market price to reach £20 million, meaning United has about £5 million to catch up. In addition, Everton’s new manager Roberto Martinez is unwilling to sell Baines. The 28-year old England international will play a crucial part in Martinez's schemes for the oncoming season.

Another reason is that the player himself does not have any intention to leave the Merseyside club anytime soon, highlighting his eagerness to work under Martinez. "He has a different style to what we have been used to but I think it is progressive and it will move us forward," said Baines.

It is believed that the beginning of David Moyes' reign in Old Trafford is an important factor of United's desire to bring in Baines. Prior to replacing Sir Alex Ferguson last May, Moyes has been training Baines for six years.
